Judo techniques can be divided into one of three categories, These categories are: nage-waza (Judo techniques of throwing), katame-waza (Judo techniques of grappling), and atemi-waza (judo techniques of striking). The striking Judo techniques of judo, atemi-waza, are not legal maneuvers in judo competition.Atemi-waza, are performed primarily in kata, which is the practice forms of Judo techniques.
Nage-Waza (Throwing Judo techniques)
Nage-waza fall into 2 sub-categories, tachi-waza (standing Judo techniques) and sutemi-waza (sacrifice Judo techniques).The Judo techniques of tachi-waza are performed while standing and can be devided into one of three categories: te-waza (hand Judo techniques), koshi-waza (hip Judo techniques), and ashi-waza (foot or leg Judo techniques). The primary part of his body that tori (the thrower) usesapplies to throw uke (the one being thrown) decide what heading a particular tachi-waza technique will fall under.
The Judo techniques of sutemi-waza involvetake tori dropping to the mat and using his downward momentum to help throw uke. There are two types of sutemi-waza: ma-sutemi-waza (back sacrifice Judo techniques) and yoko-sutemi-waza (side sacrifice Judo techniques). The former involves tori falling to his back to accomplish the throw. In the latter, tori falls to his side in order to throw uke.

However in judo the debate is always open as the first thing you learn to deal with before entering a competition is to cope with the scale. It is normal for almost all judokas to be obsessed by weight and to frequently step on a scale in order to always control that arrow and to make sure it does not go beyond that weight, which is the upper level of the weight division the judoka enters.
The young people while learning and improving their judo techniques have a hard time to understand the weight mechanisms and how they are related to what they eat. It is typical for teenagers to love all the foods that are exactly the opposite of what should be the right nutrition for a judoka in order to perform at its best. Besides the wrong eating habits they have, they are constantly stressed by the weight factor within judo as they always have to step on that scale!
When they are around 14, 15 or 16 of course they are still growing, which means to increase in size and also in weight. But in the judo competitions they are so used to their weight division, that they often refuse to enter the following one and often starve themselves to death to absolutely stay in that weight division. They think, that their skills will only work there and that if they move up they will find some monster with seven heads, that will beat them.

Judo Techniques – Advancing Foot Sweep
This technique is performed on the move and relies on good timing and a smooth, rhythmical sweeping action.
Tori and uke both take orthodox right-handed grips, and tori pushes against uke, making a small step forwards on his right foot to provoke resistance, and then steps backwards on his right foot making uke follow him. Tori has created a gap between his body and uke's which uke naturally tries to close. The backwards step also allows tori to open his hips in a natural way in preparation for the sweeping movement. As uke steps forwards on his right foot, tori sweeps it away just as uke is about to place it on the mat and put his weight on it. If the timing is correct uke will go down as if he has slipped on a banana skin. It is important with this foot-sweep to make a large, bold, sweeping action from the hip, not just a tentative peck with the foot to see whether uke is balanced or not.
The sweeping foot should be turned so that the sole of tori's foot makes contact with uke's heel and the sweep should be in the direction that uke's toes are pointing. With both players holding right-handed the action of tori's left hand is important to exploit uke's loss of balance when the sweep is made, and should pull down in the direction in which the foot sweeps. The right hand pushes uke only very lightly in a sideways direction as he falls to prevent him twisting onto his side.
Not everyone is right-handed and in order for de-ashi-barai to work against a player who takes a left-handed grip tori must make some adjustments to the technique. If tori does not want to give the game away he should keep his normal grip, but instead of attacking uke's right foot as it advances, he must attack the left foot, making the sweep with his right foot instead of the left.
